Thoughts

So very sorry to recently learn of Tim’s premature passing. Tim was the first friend I made when my family returned (or in the case of three of my siblings and I, migrated to) GB in 1969 when we both started secondary school at Charters in Sunningdale. He lived just up the road from me in Ascot and we shared the same walk to the school bus until 1976, friends the whole time, sometimes going on youth hostel expeditions and sharing many adventures of extremely dubious, life building experiences! As many friends do over the years, Tim and I drifted in and out of each other’s lives afterwards but each reunion was always a pleasure. Sadly the last reunion was twenty four years ago and has left an irrecoverable gap in our all too short friendship. Time is priceless and we carelessly waste it at our peril. Tim, you’ll always be unique, and never be forgotten. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

A poem that was shared to me close to 3 years ago, when I needed it. Epitaph by Merrit Malloy When I die Give what’s left of me away To children And old men that wait to die. And if you need to cry, Cry for your brother Walking the street beside you. And when you need me, Put your arms Around anyone And give them What you need to give to me. I want to leave you something, Something better Than words Or sounds. Look for me In the people I’ve known Or loved, And if you cannot give me away, At least let me live in your eyes And not on your mind. You can love me best By letting hands touch hands, And by letting go of children That need to be free. Love doesn’t die, People do. So, when all that’s left of me Is love, Give me away.
